Re: average age

Just joined the group and maintain your'e never too old to learn regardless of who/where it comes from. Gonna hit 56 this year:(
I mention this in advance of any dumb questions I might ask in the future.

I have a friend who has never told me her age. I always found that odd since she is not vain in the least and very down to earth. I found her refusal to ever tell her age unexplainable until she gave me the reason why: because it always sounds funny to hear it said, she told me. I thought about it and came to a total agreement.

After a certain age, our physical age stops being in sync with our mental and emotional age. This out-of-sync phenomenon, which starts maybe some time in our 40s, makes it hard for us to face the reality of our physical age, so just to hear oneself saying the number sounds vague and "funny" in a laughable sort of way. It is almost like telling a lie, only it is not.

So for me to say I am 60 makes me laugh. I keep humming the Beatles' "When I get older, losing my hair...when I'm 64..." or Paul Simon's "...how terribly strange to be seventy..." Funny because I'm still 30something inside, that is, until I catch an unexpected glimpse of myself in a window - or should I say a glimpse of my father?

I was born on the first VJ day - August 14, 1945. I guess I should say, to be exact, that I am 60.5 at the moment - 3/13/2006. “…how terribly strange…old friend” Ha!

Hey, that's cool, Jose! My brother's 53rd birthday is today; I hadn't made the numbers connection.

And to all of you who are "young'ns" to DV Info--Welcome!!! Don't be strangers, ya hear? :)

K. Forman May 20th, 2006 02:21 PM

Ok, Ma... ;)

Denise Haskew May 24th, 2006 04:38 PM

Staying the distance

42 last Friday.

Had a fab night out and was the one that suggested swimming in the sea at 3am the following morning. Fortunately the gale force winds stopped us (Engish Spring) so we went to late bar instead. Wimps.

Denise

PS. Was still awake and working at least 4 hours before my kids (ages 25, 22 and 18) who almost managed to stay the distance.

Daniel J. Wojcik May 25th, 2006 05:45 AM

Wait a sec. Lemme get the calculator out.

My average age is 25.

That sounds SO much better than my actual age. :-)

Bill Wilson May 25th, 2006 10:54 AM

Age

Sixty nine last birthday. Young at heart however. Still work a full week in Eng. Dept. for the largest mfg. of television inspection equipment for sewers & storm drains. We design & mfg. all our own electronics.

I do most of the field engineering for the department (next trip, Israel for a week to service & train customer), & shoot weddings on weekends from time to time.

Mark Donnell May 25th, 2006 12:05 PM

Fifty-three. Most of my time is spent as an intravenous drug-pusher (I'm an anesthesiologist), with not enough time left over for hobbies like video production.

Cool Denise, and if you look or sound anything at all like Kate Beckinsale, I'll volunteer to be your slave. (OF course if you look and sound like Kate Beckinsale you can do better than me).
I'm heading for the big 50 later this year, son 29 getting married next month, glad my wife doesn't read these threads. hehehe

Joe Carney May 25th, 2006 05:21 PM

btw, I hope everyone knows I'm kidding.

Jad Meouchy May 25th, 2006 07:52 PM

22 in VA/DC/Metro area. I film a lot of car stuff and have recently begun considering a short. I'm molded for low-budget production as everything I have has been jury-rigged, dropped, broken, fixed, and improved. I am always learning new tricks and techniques and hope to one day move into this as a full-time career.
