7.0b?

not that I saw it anywhere as a fix or as a known issue in production notes, but worth to install another build?

for the record: I've never had it happen - and I use ctrl-z a lot as well...

If you cannot find the serial numbers, simply contact Sony Customer Service and they will help you out. If you ordered via download, the e-mail you received should have all the necessary serial numbers. If you got the box version, many people have indicated the box did NOT get the card(s) containing the other serial numbers.

When I first started to use Vegas I had the same kind of problem, in media player the image will look a lot more dark than it should.

There is only one thing that I know about that could help you.

Go into the options of Media player, go to the performance tab, click on the advance option at the bottom.

In the new window check a the bottom left and you should see "use overlays", uncheck that, click apply and restart Media player.

Hope it helps.

Whatever do that or not, the rendered image(video) remains really darker even when see it on TV via DVD player. That's why I have to put less contrast as an effect before rendering out.

Has anybody heard about that software? I found it out somehow and I all I can say is that FilmRender is the ONLY software which makes REAL film look and film motion from any miniDV and DV cam, and it takes approx. 700kb size, works fast and amazingly. Now I can say honestly that I can forget forever all the expensive software like Magic Bullet, AFter Effects plugins for film look & motion, etc. So, happy looking for film look.

Ok now a strange thing happened, for some reason Vegas sees my tapedeck but Sony Xpress can't connect to it anymore???

The only thing that remains to be cleared is the fact that I can't put in timecode for capture, the options are greyed out.

I have 5 hours of raw footage that needs to be trimmed down to 3 minutes, not to mention a limited hard drive space.

Any reason why I can't put in timecodes.

Thanks

Vegas 7 forces you to use ctrl+key to bind global options....is there anyway around this?

...Any reason why I can't put in timecode...

Check that "device control" is checked in the capture preferences.

yep 7b

i also had a similar prob in v 6d

David, what kind of keyboard are you using? im on a logitech...its got built in software (setpoint) that maps keys...maybe that is somehow causing issues.

also...i seem to recall in like 4 or 5 version there was an option in the preferences that ctrl-z closed vegas

There was a guide about how to change Vegas's skin, but I dont remember it. So, if somebody knows it, please let me know.

i have several project files i was workin in v6 with, i just did the 7 upgrade recently and ofcourse it asked me to upgrade the 6 files to 7. now those files wont save properly. they save normally, but when i reopen the file i get "error loading plug-ins" and it fails to save any changes i made, which only include modifying transitions (the error under details will say transition 0000-0000-0000-0000) and give me one for each transition i modified.

i have tried copying/pasting my timeline into a new veg file with another instance open, but it seems to follow the file.

any ideas, short of redoing it all from scratch?

thanks!

Soooo... do you have an example of this 'magic' software?

Trey Perrone
November 10th, 2006, 11:51 PM
ok, well i tried moving the project folder to another machine, and same issue. something obviously got corrupted when the veg file "upgraded" to 7 so it was probably just one of those "lucky" events.

i have exported the EDL and imported into a new veg, can put in the transitions they save ok...so just a hour or so to fix that all up i guess. dont think there was really any other option.

Trey Perrone

hmmm...it worked fine for 3 files. the last one it saved most the changes and now is doing the exact same thing when i try to apply transitions (flash)

I did a Google search on it and found this on Adam Wilt's site:

Ned Nurk worked on a standalone processor for Windows called FilmRender (formerly FilmMunge), which batch-processed AVI files. It was by all accounts good, fast, and very affordable. Unfortunately some slimeball crackers hacked his authentication system and pirated it. As a result, Ned stopped development and sales, and the DV world lost a useful tool.

Try to upload a short raw footage (approx. 30 sec.), even hard compressed, and I will upload it back processed.

So if you use Cinescore to shape some royalty free music that comes with it - then what is the best way to credit this music in your video?

Hi Seth,

thanks for your advice but there is no such option. In the capture window there a preferences button.

Three tabs in the preferences window: general, disk management and device, none of them has that option you wrote about.

I checked in the regular Vegas options but couln't find anything there either.

Anything else?

Thanks

Odd one here. I have a veg project which mixes video with animated frames. I imported the frames using "open still image sequence" like always. Everything was great. I had this on the backburner for awhile, now when I opened the project instead of a sequence of frames Vegas 6 has converted it to a still image. Could I have possibly hit some button that made this happen or is there a quick fix otherwise? I can just reimport all the frame sequences I guess, but it's like 50 different sequences so would rather not. Any ideas?

Sony's "Digital Video & Audio Production" workbook is the best training material available for learning Vegas from scratch, in my opinion. It has a set of step-by-step lessons that are designed for a training class, but can be used as self-paced training. It comes with a DVD that contains the media files needed for the lessons. It covers everything you need to know to get up to speed on Vegas. Best of all, you get to actually do everything covered in the lessons.

The only skin/theme I've ever seen from VASST for Vegas changes the entire OS Theme. That's not something I really wanna do. I don't think that Vegas can change just the UI of itself. I gave up trying a long time ago, so....

Hey, it's not like that! I mean that I saw before an examples in Vegas in internet and I remember the appearance of Vegas is brown like. Maybe it was a question of some in preferences, I am not sure.
So, is there anybody who uses his Vegas in dark view panels&windows?

Ok, bottom line is that you CAN change what Vegas looks like. However, to do that you have to change the WINDOWS theme. Right-click a clear area on your desktop, choose Properties, and then go to the "Appearance" tab. Whatever changes you make there will affect the look of Vegas (and ALL of your other programs as well).

Yeah. VASST has the BEST training material in my opinion. I bought their VASST DVDA3 package and I own some other training material for V6. I can tell u VASST is good.

I have dual monitors and I use the second one for previewing at full resolution. The problem is that this renders the preview tab unusable (since a full-resolution clip does not fit in the tab). Is it possible to have the tab in "auto" and the preview device in "Full"?

edit: problem solved, sorry for the post

Which is more important for getting the best frame rate from the Preview window? CPU, RAM, or Graphics Card?

Credit the person who did sound editing. I don't believe that Sony requires that you credit anybody for use of their Cinescore libs.

Note that DV Mag reviews Cinescore. The two negatives are that you can sync hit points, and there are few songs to choose from right now.

A faster CPU always takes top priority. More RAM will help for things like RAM renders and also to avoid paging during renders. With the exception of a very few programs, a high-end graphics card will have very little impact.

I'll ask the question thats been bugging me for a while.

I have a dual opteron (quad core) machine with 4 Gb ram and 2 500Gb sata's in a Raid0. I don't get full framerate preview with Cineformed clips.

Am I missing a setting or something?

I am experimenting with the demo of ultimate s2......

In excalibur you can render the pip to a track to smooth playback......can you do the same in ultimate s2 after you have your tracks sync'd?

Mike Kujbida
November 12th, 2006, 10:24 PM
Are you using Vegas 7? A lot of folks on the Sony Vegas forum claim to be getting close to, if not, full framerate preview.
I don't shoot HDV nor do I have a computer as good as yours so I'm just passing along what I've read.

Indeed, the only solution will be previewing on the right device, I suppose. In mediaplayer the contrast is higher and the colour temp is a bit higher it seems - or perhaps the colors are just a bit more saturated.

Making color correction in Vegas near impossible with the right preview device. Does anyone know wether the new BlackMagic Intensity will support previewing right from the timeline?

Hi all,

Is it possible to just lock the position of an event on the timeline but still be able split it and adjust the start/end points of those shorter clips (without moving them)?

I have synched several takes of a performance of a song and layered them below each other and I will NEVER want to change the position of any event.

Possible?

Cheers.

Couldn't you use the "add take" feature? Drag the next take with the other mouse button and release over the clip.

I just purchased Celluloid a few days ago and even though the official documentation (and the website) states that Reelpak 1 comes with Celluloid, the Reelpak 1 filmlooks do not appear. I've tried contacting VASST but it's been a few days and no reply from them at all.

Am I missing something in the installation process? I would really appreciate it if someone could shed some light on this. Thanks!

Hi Emre,

Not sure how that would help. I don't think that using Add As Take would lock the events from horizontal movement (ie in time).

Cheers.

Well I bought a Vantec Nexstar 3 USB2/e-SATA case. Chucked a segate 300 gig SATA2 drive in it. Only running it through USB2 currently, but it's working great for playback in Vegas at least. Getting full rate previews, both cine and m2t. Haven't tried capturing yet, but hopefully it should be alright. Defnately through e-SATA.

Unfortunately pc express esata cards aren't available in Perth, Australia from what I can tell, but as soon as I can find one, I'm sure Ill grab one.

Hi Eugene,

I'm not sure how you tried to get in touch with VASST but both the Celluloid ReadMe and the Celluloid User's Guide have a support email address in them which would have been routed to the entire support staff and I didn't see anything. The email is ultimatesupport at the domain vasst.com.

To answer your question, you should have received a confirmation email with a link to ReelPak-1. Go back and check that email. There should be one link for Celluloid and then below that toward the bottom of the email should be another link to ReelPak-1. If you have any problems send an email to ultimatesupport and we will take care of you.

I'm looking to place my order for Vegas 7, Cineform Connect and complete new NLE workstation and I'd like to know if Vegas will let me run 2 x 19" WS lcd monitors along with an external preview monitor via 1394 before I pay up.

I know I need a graphics card with 2 dvi ports and 1 spare 1394 port. Can anyone recommend a decent, reasonably priced graphics card? My workstation has the following spec;

Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 (2x2.66GHz) 1066Mhz Fsb/4Mb L2 cache
2048Mb Corsair DDR2 800Mhz Ram
ASUSŪ P5W DH DELUXE: DDR2, x16 slot, 975X chipset, 2 PCI
80GB SERIAL ATA II HARD DRIVE WITH 8MB CACHE (7200rpm)
320GB SERIAL ATA II HARD DRIVE WITH 8MB CACHE (7200rpm)
320GB SERIAL ATA II HARD DRIVE WITH 8MB CACHE (7200rpm) (these 2 Raid 0 striped)
16x +/- DVD WRITER (8x +/- Dual Lyr) (5x DVD-RAM) (40x CD-RW)
500W (Peak) Super Quiet Dual Rail PSU with 120mm fan
3 PORT Firewire card
2 x 19" Widescreen LCD monitors

I'll be shooting on a JVC HD110E, using a JVC BRHD50 VTR and A/D convertor with 1394 O/P for other various video sources.

I'd really appreciate any advice or suggestions here. Furthermore, if anyone spots any glaringly obvious problems with the above spec I'd love to know! I'm a cameraman of many years and fairly new to NLE. Must say..buying a house is easier than choosing an NLE software package! Seems like Vegas is the one though!!

I don't believe it will preview out to a monitor via 1394 in HDV or HD no matter what you have. DV should work, though not necessarily in real time...
