Rob, I have a great one of Ed Norton wearing my Steadicam and aiming it at me while I'm pointing his gun at him...! Another fave pic from that shoot has the entire camera department lined up with our jaws on that infamous curb (how brutal was that scene?). The curb had been covered with a rubber face that was painted like concrete to protect the actor's teeth, incidentally. We spent days shooting that scene. I know people who won't even watch the movie after having that part described to them! I wish I had a website (so embarassing) so I can post them for you guys.

Chris Hurd May 20th, 2003 02:36 PM

<< wish I had a website so I can post them for you guys. >>

A slice of dvinfo is always at your dispoal, Chas... email 'em to me and I'll be glad to host them for you.

Rob Lohman May 20th, 2003 02:36 PM

Now this is the stuff I want to hear! A rubber face on the curb
(ofcourse, why didn't I think of that?).... That scene was very
brutal indeed. One of the most brutal I have ever seen (not
really in what you see, but more in how inhumane it is.... brrr)

Zac Stein May 20th, 2003 08:14 PM

Ohh i would LOVE the baseball cap Charles...

MY mind is swimming at the thought of walking around with that and see who gets it.

Heheheh

Zac

Alex Knappenberger May 20th, 2003 08:29 PM

Charles, you don't have a personal website? Why would it be embarrasing? You have accomplished enough (plus more) to have your own personal website. If your not all that great with web design and all that, i'd be happy to put something together for you, although i'm sure you could easally get a REAL professional to do you one. :D

John Locke May 20th, 2003 09:13 PM

Charles,

Now you've done it...you've gotta post the picture of you guys with your jaws on the curb.

Charles Papert May 20th, 2003 09:52 PM

The embarassing part is not having the website already. haven't really had much of a need for it but it would come in useful. I have the designer lined up but no time at present to assemble--thanks anyway, Alex!

Cosmin Rotaru May 21st, 2003 08:23 AM

So, when do we get to see the pics?!

when?!

WHEN?!

:-)

Charles Papert May 21st, 2003 11:24 AM

I'll try, gents, but I only have a few days before leaving for a long job so my "playtime" is limited--

Chris Hurd May 21st, 2003 11:45 AM

No rush Charles, after you get back is fine.

Craig Kirk May 22nd, 2003 02:38 AM

FS: Canopus DVRaptor NTSC .. $50

This card is still usefull when it comes to have a second configuration that is not powered by a 2GHz+ processor.

So if you have an old Pentium/AMD 500MHz, you can convert it to a video edition station running Premiere 5/6 and get full screen previsualisation either on the PC's monitor (overlay) or on an external TV monitor. Not to mention the excellent DV codec from Canopus.

Some technical info:
http://www.detools.com/shop/cnp/dvraptor.html

NB: it's is now possible to capture the analog in (webcam application for example).

The card comes with the original box, cables, documentation and CD-ROM.

Shipping : $9

Thanks
Dany / dany@natzo.com

K. Forman May 25th, 2003 05:25 AM

Dany- Does it come with the jog/shuttle listed on the site?

Dany Nativel May 25th, 2003 09:29 AM

On the site it says "Hardware shuttle and jog (with Microsoft Intellimouse)" so I think they meant you can use any wheel mouse to perform this function.

Chris Ferrer May 26th, 2003 07:36 AM

I have a spare new Samson UHF 32 channel setup with a Sony ECM44 lav, I have taken the unit out of its original packaging but it has never been used on location. It is about a year old and as I said, no use on it. I do primarily high-end weddings and pipe my Samson through a Sound Devices Mix-pre into a DAT recorder. The audio I get is absolutley amazing! It is a diversity receiver and the current unit I am using has worked flawlessly ever since I got it, no dropped audio at all, sounds like its hard-wired. I have just not used this spare one yet. I will probably need it after I sell it...

I paid $550 from Zotz about a year ago but I think they have come down a few $$$ since then. B&H has them for $489 now. It is the UM32L44 Camera Mountable UHF Diversity Lavalier 32 Channel System with M32 Receiver, T32 Transmitter and Sony ECM-44 Microphone.

I would be willing to part with it for $375 +shipping

Cavision 4x4 Matte Box - sun shade

I have a nice Cavision rigid shade matte box with 2 filter stages, one rotatable, one fixed. It is the 4x4 version complete with carbon fiber support rods and machined aluminum mounting plate. The unit has been revised since Cavision's pictured on thier website, the unit no longer has that long adapter tube, it is a shallow step-up ring that they use now. It makes your XL1 look a lot more serious, I get a lot of comments when I have it on.

When I received the unit, I had realized that they used rather cheap hardware since I snapped a screw off when assembling the unit. So I went out and replaced all the hardware with higher grade screws and washers. I also had my local machine shop mill out a small section of the mounting base plate so I could utilize more of the available mounting screw holes. As if stands, when you attempt to set this unit up for the XL1, you have to slide the support rods over to the left side, enough so that only 2 of the 4 mounting holes were showing. I saw this and wanted to make the unit as strong as possible, so I had my machine shop remove just enough aluminum out of the base plate to fit a 3rd screw in there, they did a professional job too!

This unit has no use on the filter stages, I have used it as a sun shade for 4 weddings and now that I am the owner of 2 lenses for my XL1, I have to keep removing this everytime I need to switch to wide angle. so... I think I may part with it and use the $$$ for something else I could use more.

It is in new condition and less than a year old, comes with the french flag, extremely strudy unit, especially now that I have made some modifications to it. (I was an airframe and powerplant technician for several years so everything I own has to be mechanically perfect!)

I can send a pic if anyone if interested. $400 +shipping

Chris

Chris Ferrer May 26th, 2003 08:05 AM

sounds good Roze Ann! I just send you an em with my contact info. if they arent interested.

Thanks Chris! I just posted my Pinnacle DC30 Pro package up for sale to help pay for this. If you know of someone who could use a PC version DC30 Pro please tell them about this site. It's under the classifieds here. The package is mint. Never registered. I bought it new then got married, moved and had a baby. Just couldn't find time 'til recently to get back to editing and meanwhile switched to Mac. I'll check email right now. Thanks!

Chris, do you have any 4x4 filters left over from it you are interested in selling?

Chris Ferrer May 26th, 2003 02:14 PM

unfortunatley no, I never got around to buying them, I am still using my threaded ones.

Chris

Dylan Couper May 26th, 2003 02:19 PM

Roze Ann, it's all yours. I might have a line on a mic, and also Keith has one I will be able to use while I'm in Florida, so it's all good.
Thanks for the offer though, Chris!

Okay, Go ahead and e-mail them to me. Thanks.

For Sale: Varizoom MediaPro Shoulder Support

I haven't done one of these before, so forgive me if I don't know what I'm doing.

Anyone, I've decided the Varizoom MediaPro isn't for me, and I want to get rid of it. It's only been used a few times, and I believe I have all the original stuff, so I'm asking $350. That's about $100 less than the price on the Varizoom site, and 80 or so less than on B&H's site, just for reference. I think they also charge extra for the plate for the MA100, which I'll throw in free. I don't recall whether the screws you need are already in the MA100, or if they come with the shoulder support.

As for payment, I don't know. I have a Paypal account, but I don't know how all this jazz works. Maybe Chris can help me.
